Let me tell you why I don’t get on here and give a fuck
about too/to/two and there/their/they’re.
See, those words are homophones and I can see how someone could mistakenly use one in place of the other. When you read it aloud, they sound the same.
However it is very common in my area for people to use the words “sell” and “sale” interchangeably. So I am constantly seeing shit like this:
2 BLACK AND TAN COONHOUNDS FOR SELL
I AM TRYING TO SALE 2 BLACK AND TAN COONHOUNDS
So here I am asking myself if people even read half the shit they type.
Another thing I commonly see on my facebook feed which may also be regional, though I doubt it is the misuse of “wonder” and “wander” everywhere. As in the following:
I AM WANDERING WHERE YOUR COONHOUNDS ARE LOCATED
when in reality they have no idea where you coonhounds are and cannot possibly be meandering through the hills with them.
I WAS WONDERING THROUGH THE FOREST AND I FOUND YOUR FUCKING DOGS
So you see, if I can read it out loud and it makes sense I’ll forgive you. Actually fuck it, I won’t hold a grudge against you for any grammar or spelling mistakes. I just want you to know why the homophones aren’t as big of a deal to me as they are some people. I type pretty informally on the internet because I’m not writing an essay and my modifiers are free-spirited and always willing to challenge the stuffed shirts so I’m in no position to judge. Looky here, I’m complaining anyhow. :P
